There are 2 Winter Ski Centres, Glenshee & The Lecht.
Glenshee
Glenshee Ski Centre located above Braemar, is Scotlands largest ski and boarding area, extending over 2,000 acres, 4 mountains and 3 valleys.
Glenshee Ski Centre’s 36 different runs make a total of 40kms served by 22 lifts comprising:-
3 chairlifts 16 pomas 3 T bars
The 36 runs comprise of 8 beginner (green) runs, 13 blue runs, 13 red runs, and 2 black runs.
There is a base station with a cafe, ski hire and shop, 2 further cafes on the mountain, snow making facilities and a terrain park.
Uplift capacity with full snow cover is stated to be 15,460 per hour with 1,500ft ( 457m ) vertical descent.
Skis, boots, and snowboards are available for hire and there are ski schools.
Lecht Ski Centre
Lecht Ski Centre is at the top of the pass between Strathdon & Tomintoul and features 12 different lifts; including a 3 man chairlift; plus a travelator aimed at beginners. A travelator is a moving pavement or “magic carpet” type of uplift. Snow canons are used to extend the snow cover on most runs. Uplift consists of:-
1 travelator
1 three man chair
3 nursery slope lifts
4 intermediate poma tows
3 advanced poma tows with challenging runs
There is a modern self service cafe, ski and boot hire, plus a ski school and a rail park.
